Fun at the Farmer's Market!

Sunday was my first day at the La Jolla Market and it went really well! It was really slow at first. I could tell the "die hards" were bee-lining it to the veggies and were not there to browse. But eventually more people arrived to check out all the great booths and I sold a good number of soaps including a special order for some party favors.

My sister stopped by and took a picture of my display. Some of my loosely wrapped soaps started to sweat by the end of the day, so I'm a little worried about hot days this summer. Anyone have some tips who sell glycerin soaps outdoors?

Your booth looks great! I've been having the same problem with my soaps sweating in the heat. I have no fixes yet, Lol! I'll be checking back to see what other people have to say though!

I agree with egassner, your booth does look great! Those soaps with the matching washcloths look so cute! I'm glad you did well at the farmers market.
There's a discussion right now on TeachSoap forum about how to keep M&P soap displays from melting in hot weather. Soapbuddy had some great suggestions like keeping only one of each type of soap on display and the rest in a cooler until needed. :)

Glad Armi brought up the discussion on the TeachSoap forum, that's where I was going to suggest you take a look. The display looks great!

I wish you were here!! I love your soaps. Where can I find the soap you have on the popcicle stick for my kids??

Debbie, will you be selling those adorable ice cream truck soap dishes in your soapsicle shop or Etsy soon? I want one! :)

I had my second market day and even though it was hot, as long as the soaps were in the shade I didn't have any problems. I kept a stash of soaps under my table, though, just in case.

Armi - I'm so glad you like the dishes! I will have them in my main shop very soon - hopefully within the next couple of weeks.

Oh - Michelle, you can find all of my soapsicles at www.soapylove.com. The logo on my blog page links right to my shop. Thanks!

I just ordered. My kids picked out which ones they wanted. It will be fun to get them, can't wait :)

I'm glad your second market day went well!
I'll be sure to keep an eye on your soapsicle store for your new soapdish and maybe buy a soapsicle or two to display on it too.

Your display is very bright and eye catcing and you are far too happy, svelte and cheery looking to have a newborn. =) I don't know how you do it all ...

Back in the day when I did craft shows on a regular basis, all the soaps in direct sunlight either got soft, faded or literaly boiled in their wrapping.

I did what has already been suggested. Have a few example soaps out and then have the others strategically placed nearby so that they are obvious yet not in direct sunlight (so maybe in a box behind the example soap).

I also used to have a cover that I would move based on where the sun was. That helped a lot.

do you still sell soap at the farmer's market?

Hi Anonymous! :) No, I don't sell there anymore. Sales were very inconsistent and competition for spaces was fierce. I decided to take back my Sundays and spend more time with the family! A good decision for me.
